Black soup

2 cups washed bitter leaves
1/2 cup sliced scent leaves
2 cups sliced uziza leaves
1 small bunch ugwu (optional)
4 cups banga extract/sauce (palm fruit)
1 medium size smoked fish
1 kg assorted meat
8 pieces kpomo
7 pieces stockfish
1/2 cup ground crayfish
1 tablespoon ground dry Pepper
1 small bulb onions
1 cup water
4 seasoning cubes
Salt to taste


  1. Grind or blend all leaves together and set aside.
  2. Season the meat with salt, a bit of pepper, seasoning
    cube,onions and water, stir and cook until it is soft and
    tender and the water dries up but not burnt.
  3. Add the banga extract, washed stockfish, dried fish and
    crayfish, add 2 seasoning cubes and the remaining
    dry pepper.
  4. Allow cook for 10-15 minutes until the soup
  5. Add the ground leaves (this gives it the black looking
    color) stir, add salt to taste, allow to
    simmer for another 5 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with eba, fufu, semovita or pounded yam
